Palo Santo

Palo Santo wood is often cut into pieces and burned as an incense. Because of the resin in the wood, it is able to slow burn over a long period of time. Palo Santo wood can also be distilled into essential oil that captures the essence of this resin.
The most organic and complete method for oil extraction is vapor distillation. This method produces very potent and medicinal
Palo Santo Oil.

How to use Palo Santo

Palo Santo can be used in various ways during ceremony. It brings an aura of peace and a feeling of being grounded. It cleanses and purifies thoughts, environments, and energies.

Incense
When burnt as an incense, it cleanses your personal space and environment of negative energy, raising the vibration of anyone in its presence. It is also a natural mood stabilizer - clearing and calming the mind as well as your environment.

Oil
The scent of Palo Santo oil is calming. It can be used to aid during moments of anxiety, depression, and stress. When mixed with a carrier oil, it can be used as a massaging oil to relieve tension and stress in the body.

In General
It can hold space on your altar, used as a tea stick, and lit to ward away insects. It provides an aura of good energy and is lovely to have around the home, car, or on your person.

Palo Santo, Bursera graveolens is a sacred tree that grows in South America. Known as "Holy Wood", this wood is indeed a medicinal and magical tool that when used properly
can provide guidance and healing. It belongs to the same family (Burseraceae) as Frankincense and Myrrh.

I am blessed to receive my Palo Santo from a small farm of the coast of Ecuador. The Palo Santo is sustainably harvested, meaning only dead wood is collected. Collection of the Palo Santo is done so with deep respect and intention. Creating ceremony around these tasks and handling the wood as a the sacred being it is, allows for the pure essence of the Palo Santo to emerge.

Palo Santo Oil contains various, naturally occuring, organic compounds- such as the terpene Limonene. Terpenes are organic compounds produced by plants and sometimes insects - think pine tree sap. They are very odorous. Limonene is the citrus smelling compound found in many species such as lemons.

Limonene has been known to aid in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and stress. It has anti-fungal properties and has been shown to stimulate the immune system!
